Preserving the environmental and cultural heart of Miami Dade County
On August 15th, 1988, a group of citizens, active in the preservation of South Florida's environmental and historic heritage, met regarding their concern for the lack of preservation of environmentally sensitive lands in Dade County. Sallye Jude, a founder of the Land Trust, was elected President. The organization was incorporated as the Land Trust of Dade County, Inc.
Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws were adopted.
OUR MISSION
The Land Trust of Dade County is a not-for-profit corporation made up of concerned citizens committed to the conservation, preservation, and restoration of properties significant to the environmental and cultural heritage of Miami-Dade County, through acquisition, management, and cooperative endeavors with other organizations.

WHAT WE DO
Most land trust projects start through the generosity of private landowners, and many of these lands are open to the public. Land trusts also offer a wide variety of programs and events that connect community members to the land with land trust programs such as story walks for children, nature hikes and bike rides for the adventurous, exercise classes in nature for health and wellness, farmers markets and community gardens that put fresh food on the kitchen table, and so much more.
WHAT IS A LAND TRUST?
The lands protected by land trusts can help provide clean water, protect habitat for wildlife and plants and help fight the impacts of climate change. Some land trusts work in urban locations, creating community gardens, protecting green spaces and planting trees that cool air temperatures and reduce air pollution. Other land trusts work in rural areas, protecting family farms and ranches, conserving forests and securing water resources.
